As a Disability Support Worker with Great Southern Care, you would have obtained or working towards to obtaining the skills and qualifications you need to build a rewarding career, including things like:

  • A qualification in Community Services, Disability or Individualised Support
  • Knowledge and understanding of contemporary person-centered, strength-based support and its application in the area of disability and/or mental health.
  • First Aid, Medication Administration, and Manual Handling Certificates
  • Completion of or willing to complete the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.

Duties Of a Support Worker.

  • Transportation of Participants. Safe driving practice.
  • Assist Participant with any activities they would like to achieve ie: shopping, paying a bill, visiting a friend, caring for a pet, attend social and community participation.
  • Carry out activities and duties to reflect the Participant’s specified goals in NDIS Plan.
  • Have an understanding of basic human rights.  Advocate for the Participant where necessary.  Understand, identify and Report abuse.
  • Personal Care, Toileting/Showering, assist with hygiene.
  • Document Progress Notes about Participant and how they are working towards and reaching their goals.
  • Report back to Team Leaders/Supervisors/Management.
  • Communicate effectively with GSC Management, Team Members, Participants, and their Families/Formal Supports.
  • Effective time management.
  • Be aware of Participant details this includes any allergies, diet, phobias and personal details including diagnosis and behaviour strategies.
  • Adhere to all company Policies and Procedures.  Adhere to all confidentiality. Adhere to all safety.  
  • Be flexible around changing Participant requests, health, needs and life transitions.
  • Attend staff meetings and carry out reasonable requests from Team Leaders/Supervisors/Management.
  • Attend all mandatory training.  Play role in personal development within GSC company.
  • Maintain own health and safety in the workplace.  Work within own scope of practice.
  • I identify barriers and work towards solutions.
  • Be prepared to engage in different lifestyle request of the Participant ie Attend Swimming, Pet grooming, cooking classes, support in the workplace of any Participant etc…
